Don’t Throw Away the Cardboard Inside Your Pantyhose — Here’s What You Can Actually Do With It

You know that little piece of cardboard that comes inside a package of pantyhose or tights?

Most people pull it out, toss it in the trash, and never think about it again.

But… we think it’s seriously underrated.

That little piece of cardboard is sturdy, flat, lightweight, and surprisingly useful around the house. Once you start looking at it differently, you’ll find yourself saving them instead of throwing them away.

Here are some of our favorite ways to reuse them — including one freezer trick you’re going to want to try.

1. Turn It Into Your New Favorite To-Do List

Sometimes you don't need another notebook or a fancy planner. You just need a small piece of sturdy cardboard.

Keep a few by your desk, kitchen counter, or in a junk drawer and use them for:

* Daily to-do lists

* Grocery lists

* Things you need to remember

* Shopping lists

* Quick notes

* Kids' chore lists

* Packing lists

* Errands

* Meal-planning notes

The best part?

When you're done, recycle it and grab another one.

No precious notebook pages being used for “buy milk” and “call the dentist.”

2. The Cupcake & Muffin Freezer Trick

This might be our favorite one.

If you freeze cupcakes or muffins in a Ziploc bag, you know what can happen: they get squished, stacked awkwardly, or end up with frosting stuck to the inside of the bag.

Try this instead:

Layer two pieces of the cardboard together to create a sturdier little base.

Place your cupcakes or muffins on top, then carefully put the whole thing into a large Ziploc or freezer bag.

The cardboard gives the baked goods a flat, supportive base, helping keep them from getting crushed or squished in the freezer.

And if you're making a big batch for a party, this little trick can make freezer storage so much easier.

3. Make a Quick Bookmark

Cut the cardboard into strips, decorate it with stickers, washi tape, markers, or pretty paper, and you've got an instant bookmark.

This is especially cute for kids.

You can even make a few personalized ones for:

* School

* Camp

* A book club

* A classroom

* A gift basket

Bonus: Punch a hole at the top and add a ribbon or piece of string.

Suddenly, that piece of “trash” looks intentional.

4. Turn It Into a Kids' “Write & Toss” Board

Keep a stack of them in a playroom or homework area.

Kids can use them for:

Math problems. Spelling words. Doodles. Practice writing. Chore charts.

When they're finished, start fresh with another one.

It's a fun way to give kids a dedicated little writing surface without constantly going through your good notebooks.

5. Make a Quick Gift Tag

Cut it into a cute shape, punch a hole, add some ribbon or twine, and write your message.

With a little creativity, it can become a really cute handmade gift tag.

Try cutting it into:

* A rectangle

* A circle

* A heart

* A star

* A scalloped shape

Add a little wrapping paper, washi tape, or a handwritten message and you're done.

6. Keep a Stack for “I’ll Figure Out What to Do With This Later”

Put a small pile in a drawer or craft bin.

Because the next time you need a piece of sturdy scrap cardboard, you'll already have one.

And instead of thinking:

“Where am I going to get a piece of cardboard?”

you'll think:

“Wait… I saved those!”

The Next Time You Open a Package of Tights…

Don't automatically throw that cardboard insert away.

It's not going to replace every household product, and we're certainly not saying you need to start hoarding every piece of cardboard that enters your house.

But it's clean, sturdy, flat, and useful — which makes it perfect for a surprising number of little everyday jobs.

And that's the fun part about reusing things:

Sometimes the best household hacks aren't something you need to buy.

They're already sitting in your recycling bin.

So the next time you pull the cardboard out of your pantyhose…

Pause before you toss it.
